Le Chic En Rose

Diaries of an independent traveller

It’s been a hectic time here in the “Le Chic En Rose” household. We had a lovely Christmas joined by our daughter, Mlle, from London. Time seems to have flown by all too quickly and she left us just in time to see in the New Year back in the UK. Apparently she has barely left the heater since she got home!

We have had rather a cool summer so far by our standards but it is all relative and today it’s really heated up for the start of the New Year. Here to start off the blog for 2017 are a few photos of some of our recent walks down by the sea.

We were so sad to read about the horrible attack on the Christmas markets in Berlin, a city that we have very much enjoyed visiting. One of my treasured Christmas ornaments was brought back for me by Mlle a few years back from the Berlin markets.  I’ll be resuming my articles about the vibrant city of Berlin shortly.

In the meantime, wishing everyone a very happy and peaceful New Year!

  1. The beach looks so lovely, i wouldn’t mind sitting there and relax, enjoying the sound of the waves crashing softly on the sand…. I’m really envious. I’m glad you had a lovely xmas with your daughter, the contrast in temperatures must have been hard for her !

    1. Thanks Gin – yes we are very fortunate living here 🙂 Even when the winds are too strong to sit on the beach for long (which has happened a fair bit this summer) it’s invigorating to go for walks down there and the sight and sound of the waves crashing is lovely! Yes it was lovely having our daughter back here – she’s not enjoying the cold weather back in London! Now she’s gone it’s got really hot here too – high 30s today but cooler after tomorrow. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! 🙂

  2. Best wishes for the new year to you and your family. The images of the beach is nice for us who are covered in snow. (Suzanne)

    1. Thanks Suzanne! Yes I realise the reverse seasons come into play especially at this time of the year! Still snow would be nice (in theory) as it’s rather too hot for me today (high 30s) but luckily we live near the coast so get the afternoon sea breeze and like many people here we have a pool 🙂 Very best wishes to you and yours for 2017! 🙂

The time goes quickly when you’re with loved ones who live far away, Rosemay. I’m glad you enjoyed your time together. 🙂 Christmas for us was quiet but we have a full programme now we’re here in the Algarve (just arrived this morning) Wishing you a happy and healthy 2017! Yes, so tragic about Berlin. Where will it end?

    1. Yes it’s hard when you are far away Jo – time just seems to fly by and of course it is a different from normal day to day life as you try and do as much as possible in that short time! We are hoping to see our younger daughter again late April/early May – just starting to work out our next trip round our other commitments (and everyone else’s)! Tragic about Berlin 😦 On a brighter note wishing you a fabulous time in the Algarve and some warmer weather! It is probably like a Perth winter? We get very chilly nights here during the winter down to near freezing and certainly single digits but daytime can be mid to high teens (occasionally as high as low 20s). We also get wild winter storms with heavy rain but makes a nice contrast from the hot summers!

Yes, similar I would think, Rosemay. We were out with our walking group today, up in the hills, and it was down to 13C and cloudy when we started out but around 19C at 3, when we came out of the restaurant, pleasantly full and fit for nothing further. 🙂 Lazy evening at home now and it’s rather nice to have WiFi, courtesy of our next door neighbours. 🙂 Take care!

    1. Thanks Jude – it’s certainly a lovely coastline! Probably a tad warmer than Cornwall at present though up to early January we’ve had a mild summer (not that cold though!). Hope you had a lovely Christmas and very best wishes for 2017! 🙂

  9. Oh those beautiful blue skies in your photos Rosemary – just the thing to cheer up a grey, dismal January day in England!! I’m sure your daughter is struggling with the weather here after that lovely sunshine. Looking forward to reading more about Berlin in your upcoming posts. Best wishes for 2017 – may it be full of good things!

    1. Thanks Joy – hope it wasn’t tactless posting blue skies when it’s so cold in the northern hemisphere hopefully it lifts the spirits!! Yes our daughter is certainly not liking the cold and she has to go back to work today so up and out early! Very best wishes for 2017 to you as well! 🙂

    1. Thanks Ruth! Yes it was lovely to have her back with us for the festive season! She’s back in London now and not too enthused about the weather. We had a hot spell at the start of the week but it’s quite mild now – had some rain yesterday. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wishing you a very happy New Year too! 🙂
