Le Chic En Rose

Diaries of an independent traveller

A few photos from a recent walk in the Whitfords park by the sea (see my previous post here). I made it to the top of the exercise ladder this time, having somehow managed to avoid the entrance on our last visit. No dogs allowed so Monsieur and Winston le Schnoodle waited for me at the bottom. Fortunately there was a coffee van nearby, which helped to pass the time. Not that I took that long though it is surprising how 145 steps seems quite a long way up – I ran part of the way and walked the rest!

Once at the top, you are treated to a wonderful panoramic view across the Indian Ocean and coastal path. The lookout point has boards with some interesting information about the local fauna and flora including the beautiful Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos. Sadly these birds, native to the south west coastal region of Perth, have become increasingly rare owing to encroachment on their habitat, amongst other things, as Perth expands. Conservation groups are working to assist their survival and long term future. We do sometimes see them on our nearest local walk to the “Top of the World”.

Wishing everyone a very “Happy New Year”- a couple of days late!

    1. Thanks Margaret – let’s hope it will be a more positive year ahead! It’s been very hot here (opposite I know to the UK and Europe). Getting back out for walks now as it was too hot earlier this week 🙂

    1. Glad I wasn’t the only one Jo! Actually there were much younger people than I who were breathless so I didn’t feel too bad and I got to the top pretty quickly. It was worth it for the view! Thanks so much for linking to your walk yesterday – just heading your way now! xx 🙂

      1. Thanks! The lockdown is all very worrying, it feels as though we are back to the start. We have always been cautious so it won’t change much for us, but it just feels never-ending now.

        1. Yes my dad is finding it tough – hard to see an end in sight at present. He has just had his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine – seems well which is good! Take care X

How interesting. You Aussies do boardwalks and viewpoints so well. I think even I would manage those steps. Slowly…
Happy New Year to you and your family. All very grim over here, but we are keeping our heads down and hoping for the best.

    1. Yes we do love our boardwalks and lookout points – it’s such a good idea mixing keeping fit with information about the environment. Happy New Year too to you and your family! Realise it is very grim over with you at present – just been reading about the latest hard lockdowns 😦 Hope things will improve in the next couple of months or so, in the meantime take care X

    1. Thanks we do live in a beautiful part of the world 🙂 I love seeing the photos from Finland in the winter – it looks so pretty with all the snow but I guess it would be hard without daylight for so long. Very best wishes for 2021!
