A quick detour from my Hong Kong posts this week as wanted to share some photos from our recent trip out to Araluen Botanic Park. I have blogged about this beautiful spot before (see here and here for previous posts) but never managed to visit during the autumn months.
The day was perfect – gorgeous sunshine, hardly a cloud in the sky and a wonderful backdrop for the greens, russets and gold tones of the foliage. We had our younger granddaughter with us who thoroughly enjoyed running around and exploring the pathways and being midweek we more or less had the place to ourselves.
The cafe, Chalet Healy, is open every day from 10am to 4.00pm (the kitchen closes at 3pm) and we stopped off for lunch and refreshments before continuing our walk.
We found a little island to explore and watched the waters of the stream meandering under the bridge. Although only half an hour or so from the metro area we always feel very away from it all up in the Perth hills and the fresh air does us all good – our little granddaughter was sound asleep almost as soon as we drove out of the car park!

Oh thanks so much Jo – I will add the link to the bottom of my post, you are obviously super organised! We’ve been so lucky with the autumn weather here so far – it’s pleasant and sunny but much crisper at night which is lovely. Araluen was looking superb when we visited last week. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather (opposite season of course) 🙂 🙂

It looks lovely. So nice to have some autumnal colours Downunder! Sadly my son has relocated back to Sydney, so I never did make it across to Perth for another visit. One day perhaps.

Oh yes you’ll have to try and come across here one day – you can get all the way here non stop now with Qantas! Only to Perth at this point in time. I’m really enjoying the autumn – it’s been so pleasant, sunny but not hot and the chill of the season change at night. Rain on the way this week though. Looks like you’re having lovely spring weather too 🙂

Yes, it is a shame he moved just when the non-stop route came in. He does work for Qantas though, so I am hoping that eventually I might score a discount on the fare. Might be worth flying to Perth, stopping over there for a few days and then on to Sydney.

Yes hopefully you’ll get a good deal! We are still undecided about trying out the non-stop route. I could certainly do without the hassle of changing planes and having to go through more security checks but on the other hand it is good to stretch your legs and have a good walk round. We’re going to see how things go! It will be a while before the non-stop routes go as far as the eastern states so I would think coming via Perth is a very good option. They have a new Qantas terminal here now so you can transfer easily from the international to domestic flights and vice versa 🙂

Thank you – it is certainly a lovely spot to walk round at any time of year. I adore autumn colours too – probably my favourite season and the colours looked wonderful on such a sunny day 🙂

Thank you Isabel – yes it’s a lovely place and really isn’t too far of a drive (though I’m used to shuttling backwards and forwards with babysitting duties!). If you can get up in the week at all it’s really quiet – just a few people and gardeners when we were there. The autumn colours were spectacular! The cafe always seems to be open – we had a very nice lunch there 🙂

Perth is lovely – glad you have been here! We love going out into the hills especially in the cooler months (we live near the coast). I love autumn colours too and the displays were spectacular!

Perth is indeed beautiful, I lived there years ago and both the Squire and I have visited when we hired a motorhome exploring up and down the coastline.

That sounds a great way to explore the place! Winter arrived a couple of days ago with wild storms, gales and rain. We do enjoy walks down by the sea on such days though we did get quite wet earlier today!
