We got back from our travels just over a week ago and have been in post-holiday sorting out mode – correspondence, piles of washing, adjusting to the new time zone and climate etc. etc.!
We had a very enjoyable sojourn in Hong Kong to break up the journey – my first time there though Monsieur has been a couple of times on work trips. I found it a fascinating place of many contrasts, a real mix of east and west. It can be a bit overwhelming with the volume of people in such a small area but there are plenty of opportunities to find some peace and tranquillity.
Here are a few photos taken mainly in Hong Kong but also in Kowloon, across the harbour on the Chinese mainland. More to follow along with some more posts about our UK travels. Our trip was certainly a contrast of seasons and culture!

I have been to Singapore once years ago Jo – only for a couple of days so that is somewhere I’d like to go back to. Monsieur has been more often for work. Hong Kong is a fascinating place – an interesting cultural melting pot. I feel we only managed to scratch the surface on this visit so we’d like to go back again at some point. Thanks – enjoy your Easter break too 🙂 🙂

You’re very welcome Ruth! We found it a good stop over point – helped to break the long journey up and an interesting place to visit. Of course we can now fly non stop from Perth to London if we want to – not sure that I want to be in a plane that long however comfortable it is supposed to be we’ll see how it goes!

Happy Easter to you too Ken! We have all the family coming over today! We were supposed to be doing the circuit of the Peak but took the turning half way on the Morning Trail and ended up walking right down to the Mid Levels! Monsieur has done the shorter circuit before which is what we were trying to do. Didn’t get to the Museum of Tea – such a pity I would have loved it so something for next time! We did however go to Maritime Museum on the harbour which was also fascinating! 😃

I love Hong Kong! John used to have strong work links with one of the universities there and was out for 6 weeks in 1999. I went out for one week, then have been back a couple of times as an add-on to a longer break elsewhere. The last time was 2006 😕. Someday, I’ll go back.

We found it fascinating Anabel and will consider doing it again as a stopover en route to and from Europe. My grandpa was born in China in 1898 as his parents were missionaries out there ( seems so strange from a modern day perspective) so it was interesting to visit albeit a slightly different part of the country. We loved the Maritime Museum which told us a lot about the history – such a cultural melting pot. Monsieur has been twice before for work and thought I’d be interested to go there. We still have so much to see and do if we go back! 😃

I feel the same! There are a couple of things we liked to do each time, such as the Star Ferry, but there is so much more. We barely touched the New Territories, though John used to go hiking there when he was out for 6 weeks. And all the islands to explore too.

We enjoyed the Star Ferry too – loved the traditional ferries. We would have liked to have seen a bit more of some of the islands too. It must be nice to get out to the New Territories – a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city!
