Le Chic En Rose

Diaries of an independent traveller

We have just got back from our few days staying down in Yallingup in the beautiful south west region of Western Australia. I haven’t had time to do my usual blog post this week week but thought I’d share a few photos of a twilight walk we did round the stunning Cape Naturaliste Peninsula on our last evening. The trail skirted round the lighthouse and we had the place to ourselves. The sunset had to be seen to be believed – it was a wonderful sight over the calm waters of Geographe Bay. In future blogs, I will have plenty of stories to share about our south west trip as well as more stories about our European holiday earlier this year!

And finally the sun disappeared over the horizon!

    1. Yes it’s such a beautiful and unspoilt part of the world Jo! It was a lovely evening for a stroll – we were literally the only people on the pathway. I am going to write up a longer account at some point but am quite happy to link to your next Monday Walk if you think it qualifies since it’s a shorter post than I normally do! We did the lighthouse stroll, which was about 2.5 kms and took us round the headland. Hope you have had a lovely break in Portugal! I’ll be catching up with all my blog reading tomorrow! We were out yesterday at our daughter’s and just heading out the door again soon! X

Thank you for these beautifully captured glimpses of our stunning west coast, Rosemary. I still marvel at the fact the south west of WA is about as big as Victoria!

    1. You’re very welcome Ken 🙂 It is a stunning part of the world isn’t it? Have you been over to the south west part of WA? I know the geography is quite mind blowing – we only live in a relatively small corner of WA the state is huge and so varied!

A few years ago now, Rosemary, we had several days on a loop down the coast to where the three oceans meet and force a left turn or you get very wet!! We had several days in Margaret River, stayed overnight in the middle of the Karri forest, a couple of nights in Albany and then headed back to Perth. That’s how I know what the scale is.

        1. Sounds a great trip and yes it is a long way isn’t it?! Have only been down to Albany once though many times to Margaret River. The Karri forest is fascinating too – we’ve been to Pemberton once and driven through the Boronup forest a few times incredible how tall the trees are there!

Beautiful! I find it so difficult to get good photos of sunsets. They always are so much more spectacular in “real life” than they look in my photos.

    1. Thanks Kerry! Think we were very lucky with these as I thought they wouldn’t come out too well. The sunset was amazing in real life and probably even more spectacular than the photos show! Used the proper camera though not the iPhone for these!

    1. Its a gorgeous place Lucy – about a 3 hour drive south west from Perth. The Cape peninsula juts out into the Indian Ocean though this part is on the more sheltered northern side and the seas were calm that evening. We had a lovely few days away – now got that post holiday feeling trying to catch up with everything! Hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

    1. It was the perfect time for a walk Ruth with the sun setting and the backdrop of the skies and lighthouse. You can do a tour of the lighthouse but this was in the later in the day and it had already closed – next time!

    1. Thanks Ting – we did have a good few days break down in the south west. It was quite wild and wet initially but we had some lovely days as well. I have taken so many photos (as per usual) it will take me a while to sort through them all. Will be writing up quite a few posts about this trip and also finishing up the posts about my last holiday!! Will be catching up on everyone else’s blogs over the weekend too! Hope you have a great weekend as well 🙂

    1. The area round Cape Naturaliste is wonderful Jude. If you come to Perth again it is a lovely part of the world to explore. We were there during the week and also out of school holidays and we really had many places to ourselves. We drove along the road leading out to the lighthouse on our last evening and there was hardly a soul about! Am very glad the photos help to reflect the beauty as the light was so wonderful that evening! 🙂

    1. Thanks Joy – it was such a lovely walk! Well signposted too as we were the only people about and didn’t know where we were going. The track took us right round the headland and lighthouse though and we could follow the light from the tower! The sunset was stunning and am so glad the photos came out so well in the end, as you never quite know when you are taking them! Hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

    1. We were lucky to have such a great evening for our stroll Gin! It was getting quite dark by the time we got back to our car (fortunately the walk was well signposted). I thought we might have to follow the light of the lighthouse at one point as the path got very dusty and narrow but we were fine! 🙂
