Le Chic En Rose

Diaries of an independent traveller

Apologies for the blog hiatus! Unfortunately Monsieur Le Chic and yours truly were struck down by “die Grippe” at the end of our UK trip and this affected us for our first few days in Munich. We spent rather more time than planned in our hotel ( albeit a very nice one) and got to know the local Apotheke well. Their wonderful medications and tonics have worked their magic and we have thoroughly enjoyed the last few days helped too by the glorious sunshine! Yesterday we had a magical day out, along with our younger daughter Mlle, to the beautiful Neuschwanstein Schloss and here are a few photos from that trip. I’ll be writing up more once we’re back home in Perth ( we set off for home tomorrow afternoon). Auf Wiedersehen Munich!

    1. Thanks Gin! They are still selling jigsaw puzzles at the souvenir shops I think they would take ages to do! This is the definitive fairytale castle and it lived up to expectations the views are breathtaking! We were so glad we got there in the end 😃 Hope you’ve been having a good week 😃

      1. Exactly, the fairytale castle, that’s exactly what I feel when I look at ot 🙂 I’m so surprised to know that jigsaw are still popular 🙂 I’m having a good week, but there was strike for the public sector today in Belgium, which means, no public transport… that was so annoying !

        1. Must be a European problem at present as there was a transport strike here in Munich today too, which affected quite a few trains. We’re hoping tomorrow will be ok as we need to get out to the airport. I think jigsaw puzzles are still very popular good for the brain! 😃

          1. Oh I hope you won’t have problems with trains… I suppose it means you are going back to Australia ? Safe travels

            1. Yes we’re off back to Australia today Gin our flight leaves this afternoon. Always mixed feelings – sad to be leaving Munich we’ve been staying here for 9 nights and the hotel has been great. Looking forward to seeing our daughter and family in Perth though and meeting our new little granddaughter for the first time and seeing the pets again! Also our younger daughter is flying back with us for a couple of weeks before she comes back to London. Trains are still on strike but running to the airport so we’ve been told! Hope the public transport is running again with you! 😃

            3. That’s good the transport is back to normal 🙂 Yes it was easier to fly back with our daughter though she’s off back to London in 11 days time! We got back Friday night – the jetlag always hits me far worse coming back I’m finding it hard to get up in the mornings!! Hope you’re having a good weekend 🙂

            5. Yes it seems to affect people more when flying from west to east – it’s really been hard but I have to get up early tomorrow so will have to force myself somehow! Today is a public holiday for ANZAC Day 🙂

            6. ANZAC day ? I’ve never heard about it! I may do some research later 😉 I hope the jet lag will disappear soon !

            7. Yes it’s actually on 25th April to remember all the Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women who fought in the various wars in the service of their countries. Memorial services and ceremonies are held at dawn in their memory it’s very moving!

            9. It’s a very important day in the Australian and New Zealand calendar but I learnt a lot more about it when I moved over here!

I’m glad you’re feeling better but too bad to spoil a few days of your holiday with your daughter. The photos are gorgeous and I love the postcard approach.

    1. Thanks it’s been a bit annoying as we really felt bad for a few days but sometimes these things happen when you’re on the road. Am glad you like the postcard approach it’s a good way of doing quick updates especially when you’re travelling and don’t always have good internet access. We’ve had a lovely time with our daughter though both in the UK and Munich and we’ve really loved Bavaria! 😃

I’m glad you’re feeling better. It’s always annoying to get sick when traveling. Unfortunately, it happens. Lovely shots! The castle is soooo beautiful ❤

    1. Thanks Lucy yes it can happen that you get sick whilst travelling I’ve heard a few stories recently and it’s not much fun! But we got to see the beautiful castle and in the end have done a lot! I’ve really enjoyed Munich and Bavaria 😃

    1. Thanks Lisa! Very glad we made it to Neuschwanstein it is the model for the Walt Disney fairytale castle apparently and you can see why!

  7. Sorry to hear you had the dreaded flu Rosemary but good you’re feeling better again with those marvellous German potions!! Spectacular pictures – what an amazing fairytale castle – I don’t think the Disney one competes with the real thing at all, you have completely convinced me we definitely need to go back there sometime fairly soon. Hope your journey back to Australia is a good one, nice your daughter is returning with you as well! Safe travels.

    1. Thanks Joy for your lovely comments – sorry it has taken me a while to reply I have been in transit and trying to resurface with jetlag! The flu was not pleasant at all but at least we had all the wonderful German lotions and potions they really helped us get through it! The castle was the highlight of our trip – I was so pleased we were able to get there as I don’t think we would have been up to it the previous week! With it being such a huge tourist attraction, I thought it might be a letdown but on the contrary it more than lived up to expectations. The whole area is simply beautiful – there are some wonderful walking trails and it is idyllic especially on a lovely sunny day! I would like to go back and visit some of the other Bavarian castles – everything is very well organised as you’d expect and there are good transport systems to get there. I’ll write up a full post in the next few weeks with all the details. It’s great having our daughter here but it is rather a flying visit she goes back to London in 11 days time – she is enjoying the lovely weather here and being back in Perth! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend too! 🙂

I have just been looking through all my photos Joy – we still managed to do a lot even though we had the flu so I have a lot to write about plus the West Country, Yorkshire and London travels! Just have to work out how to collate it all!! We did love Bavaria and would definitely like to go back again at some point! 🙂

Ugh–being sick while traveling is the worst! Glad it didn’t completely ruin the fun!

    1. Thanks Kerry it was not a pleasant experience but if you’re going to be sick Germany is a good place to be – the Apothekes were great with excellent advice and wonderful potions which helped us get over the flu so we could still have a few days to enjoy our trip! 🙂

I’ll be writing up more soon just getting back into the swing of things the jet lag always gets me when I get back home! We also have our younger daughter staying with us for just another week before heading back to London and our new granddaughter to visit!
