Le Chic En Rose

Diaries of an independent traveller

Today is the hottest day we’ve had here in Perth since January and the mercury will apparently climb to 39 degrees (no sign of the cooling sea breeze yet)! I have just returned from a sortie into our local shopping centre and still have an extensive to do list though fortunately my present shopping is mainly done. Hence a much shorter post than usual today!

My blog is primarily about travel and is an uplifting and positive space . I just want to pause briefly to send sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the innocent people affected by the horrendous events in Sydney this week. There are simply no words… however the magnificent floral tribute that keeps on growing in Martin Place is a beautiful gesture that has united everyone here in Australia and round the world and hopefully will bring some small comfort to those directly affected by this awful tragedy.

This is the first Christmas that our younger daughter, Mlle Chic Fille, won’t be joining us as she’s flown the nest for new adventures in London. So there is touch of wistfulness but we do have our other daughter, La Chic Maman and family with us and many dear friends to see. My family in the Uk will get to see Mlle at Christmas too and we will be able to chat “face to face” with the wonders of technology and Skype! Amongst my collection of Christmas ornaments, snow globes (I hadn’t realised I had so many!) and decorations is a beautiful bauble depicting a typical European winter scene that Mlle brought back for me from her travels last year. She bought it at the Berlin Christmas Markets, a beautiful gift that I will always treasure! It is delicately placed on my kitchen dresser adjacent to the tree so that neither the mischievous cat nor our little granddaughter, La Petite, can get to it! I did hang it on the tree for a couple of photos though!

In the few months since I started this blog I have “met” some wonderful people and probably the aspect of blogging I enjoy the most is the community spirit between all the bloggers! I’d like to thank everyone, family, friends, followers, readers and fellow bloggers for all their fantastic support for “Le Chic En Rose” and wish you all a very “Merry Christmas” and compliments of the season!

Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Frohe Weihnachten!

Marry Christmas, Rosemary! Wow, seems like it will be a VERY hot Christmas this year for you guys.
Love your Christmas decoration! Here, unfortunately, my husband and I have not decorated anything. Hopefully we will leave to Norway in 3-4 months, so next Christmas will not be celebrated here, so we did not want to use much money on that. Hopefully next, I will have a three as well 🙂

    1. Thank you Hanne! Yes it has been a very hot day but fortunately it will be a bit cooler (more like high 20’s and early 30’s) for the next few days – still quite hot though hopefully the sea breeze will come in early! Sounds like you have exciting plans! Very best wishes with everything over the next few months and merry Christmas too! 🙂

  3. Love your Christmas bauble Rosemary – I buy one on every trip but don’t have a Berlin bauble (yet!!). Sad that you won’t see your younger daughter at Christmas but a treat I’m sure for your English family to get to see her instead. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and that the cooling breeze arrives!

    1. Thanks Joy! I was so thrilled when Mlle brought this one back for me – she knows how much I like them! It’s high up on my wishlist to go to the Central European Christmas Markets one year!! Yes we are a little wistful that we won’t see our daughter at Christmas but as you say my English family are very much looking forward to seeing her – she’s helping my dad out by cooking the Christmas lunch so he’s very happy! I’ve been organising our next trip this week – we’ll be over in the Uk at the end of March and am looking forward to seeing the family again and of course our daughter!! The sea breeze should be back tomorrow fingers crossed – it did get a bit too hot for me here today (though we have air conditioning thank goodness!). Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas too! 🙂

    Merry Christmas to you rosemaylily.
I enjoyed seeing your Christmas tree and your Berlin bauble. It helped me get into the Christmas spirit – I’m travelling in a couple of days so I haven’t put my decorations up and I’m really missing them. I have some special treasures I love bringing out each year, too.
On a sadder note – what a heartbreaking week its turned out to be for Australia. Makes me want to give everybody an extra big hug! So a big vitual hug to you!

    1. Thank you so much for you lovely message Jill and I appreciate the big virtual hug – it certainly has been a heartbreaking time collectively for everyone here and especially for the innocent victims and their loved ones. It made it a bit harder that our younger daughter is so far away but so important that she spreads her wings and we are so fortunate with all the means of communication we have now (it was very different when Monsieur Le Chic and I first came to Australia in 1990 and even more so when my uncle emigrated to New Zealand in 1952!). Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and safe travels and sending a big virtual hug to you too! 🙂

    1. Thanks Jo 🙂 I though you might like the birds and especially the owls! There is a sparkling bird on top of the tree but he is falling off his perch a bit now after the hot day we had here yesterday! Likewise it’s been so lovely to meet you and am looking forward to more blogging in 2015! Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year! 🙂

  9. Merry (belated) Christmas, Rosemary! Hope you had a wonderful day with your family. And even though you can’t be with your daughter, video chats are great to at least be able to talk face to face – I’ve loved being able to do that with my family 🙂 Wishing you all the best in 2015!

    1. Thanks Sara and belated Merry Christmas to you too! I’ve been following all your great posts on the Christmas Markets – what a wonderful guide! I have tried to post a couple of comments and hope you got them? Video chats are great – at least you get to have face to face time even though you’re not together – it would have helped you too being over in Europe 🙂 We have booked to come over to Europe again at the end of March and will be catching up with family as well as our daughter of course! I always read your posts via email or facebook too as well as on the blog! Looking forward to reading more in the coming year and thanks so much for visiting my blog too 🙂 Very best wishes for 2015! 🙂

Technology is great these days, I also talked with all my family by skype on Christmas day. Very nice decoration by the way!

    1. Thanks Laia! 🙂 It would have been lovely for you to be able to chat to your family via Skype on Christmas Day – it does make it easier when you are far away! We had nothing like that when we first came to Australia and it was very expensive to telephone back then! Am glad you like the decorations – it was lovely to sit outside under the pergola too 🙂 Likewise it’s been lovely to have “met” you via our blogs and looking forward to reading more of your posts in 2015 too! Very best wishes with your travels and also for the New Year! 🙂

Sorry your daughter wasn’t there with you, for Christmas. This was also my first Christmas away from my family. I’m sure she missed you dearly. I hope you had a lovely holiday anyway 🙂 Hugs

    1. Thanks so much Lucy! 🙂 Yes it’s hard when your family is so far away! Are you living abroad away from your family? Our daughter is excited on the one hand for her new adventures in London but yes she is very homesick too – it’s quite hard but it is easier with modern technology we talk on Skype quite a lot and there is also facebook and emails! We emigrated from England to Australia so have done it the other way round – now she has gone back to the Uk for a while so life has gone full circle! We still had a lovely time with our other daughter and her family and good friends 🙂 Hope you also had a lovely Christmas and got to talk to your family too. Thanks so much for the virtual hugs too and sending many good wishes your way too! 🙂

Indeed, it’s hard to be away from your family and friends, especially for the holidays. I moved to Netherlands a few months ago, and I never missed home until Christmas 🙂 Nothing compares to the food mom makes, I guess haha. We also chat a lot via Skype and email, and I feel very lucky to be able to keep in touch with everyone back home. I’m happy to know your daughter is doing well in London. I wish her very much good luck! Hugs to you and your family ❤

        1. Yes that’s exactly what my daughter found Lucy – she was ok at first but then as Christmas drew closer she found it hard. Also her birthday is a couple of weeks before Christmas so that was another special occasion she was away from home for! I think she appreciates home a lot more now! However it’s important for her to spread her wings and she has so many exciting opportunities in London for her work! Wishing you all the very best too with your new adventures in the Netherlands (that explains the Dutch posts on your blog it all falls into place!) and thanks for your lovely virtual hugs and sending lots of good wishes to you as well! 🙂

Thank you for the wishes! I love the Netherlands, so far, and the people, so I don’t miss Romania that much, but I do miss my friends and family. We all have to follow our own path, I guess. Some find their way further away than others do. I post more and more things about NL because it’s a fascinating country. Ultimate machine, and I discover more and more everyday! xo

            1. That’s great that you are settling in so well Lucy to your new life! I have visited the Netherlands but quite a while ago now and only Amsterdam so I’ll be interested to read about your impressions of living there! Best wishes with everything! 🙂
